🤕 I ate dirt
Kevlar is cool
Since Casey made Boosted Boards cool I always wanted one. I never got the guts to try it out though. Sam Sheffer made some reviews about Evolve boards after Boosted went under and that seemed like the second best option. Then all of a sudden a European company, Hunder Boards, made an epic board made out milled aluminium with an unconventional suspension system so I had to have it. Long story short, I ordered one, waited 3 months, no board and a lot of excuses. I got a refund and ordered an Evolve Hadean Carbon.
The board is amazing. The quality of the board is insane. The lights make me feel like I'm in Fast and the Furious and it is plenty fast. A little to fast I figured out.
Since I'm 35, have no athletic body and bruise like a peach I thought some safety gear would be a good investment. Stupid as I am I care about what people think of me so I didn't want to just slap on those lame protectors over my pants. John Doe makes protective motorcycle clothing that looks like normal clothing. Bingo.
I went for the Dylan Pants and Motorshirt Camou. To top it off I added Dirt Gloves from my favorite brand Cafe Leather and a Bell Broozer. I know what you're thinking, bit much huh? I thought so as well. I mean, a full on motorcycle helmet for an electric skateboard. Well...
Yesterday on my 8th ride I ate dirt. After going off-road with the board for a few times I thought it was time to find out if I was able to ride the board a bit faster. I choose a long stretch of asphalt through the dunes and waited until the end of the day so the path was empty. Every time I went over 25 km/h the board started to wobble. No matter what I tried it kept wobbling. Leaning forward, leaning backward and bending the knees. I think my stance is wrong or the trunks need to be tightened. Instead of accepting it I gave it one last try. I lost control, stepped off the board, the board ran into my legs and I landed on the ground with 31 km/h.
It's fair to say that the safety gear saved my ass. The pants and gloves are done. The shirt and helmet have no visible damaged at all. I have a small abrasion on my arm and a bruised rib. Small stuff for the fall I made. I learned my lesson, the board is now limited to 25 km/u which I expect to become the legal limit when the Netherlands gets their act together and finally come with propel legislation. That currently the limit for bikes with electric support. My new pants and gloves are on the way and my next view rides will be just easy cruises :D
